Our Adaptive Learning Conversation App MyKaiwa

Our goal is to build MyKaiwa as a voice-powered application that interacts with students through speech.

Voice + AI for Adaptive Learning

With the OpenAI's GPT-3 Speech API, MyKaiwa will be a voice-based conversational AI experiences that help our students practice speaking and listening skills in English. MyKaiwa will transcribe spoken language into text, process the text using GPT-3, and then generate a spoken response. This allows us to create engaging and interactive language learning experiences that adapt to our student's abilities and needs.

Problems we hope to solve with MyKaiwa

  1. Helping schools that have problems finding teachers, tutors, or assistants
  2. Helping students find good teachers
  3. Helping students to converse in English
  4. Promote active learning with each English lesson
  5. Helping students study online even without internet access
  6. Helping make MyKaiwa affordable

MyKaiwa will provide English courses

For some schools and students, finding affordable teachers or tutors can be a daunting task. Qualified teachers in markets where English teacher salaries are inflated ensure schools and students do not end up with the right teacher. MyKaiwa aims to help schools provide English lessons without teachers on-site. A teacher will still be assigned, but they will attend virtually. Students can also use MyKaiwa to study one-on-one.

MyKaiwa will get students to converse in English

A big frustration for English learners is that after spending hours either at an English center or with private tutors, they still can not converse in English. This is where having an AI app can help. MyKaiwa will be student-focused using AI to generate conversations based on their ability, and of course, proficiency. We will apply active learning concepts as much as possible.

Promote active learning with each English lesson

Adaptive learning can promote active learning by tailoring the learning experience to individual student needs. This is achieved through continuous assessments of a student's understanding of the material. The personalized approach encourages students to take an active role in their learning by giving them control and ownership of their learning experience. Interactive and engaging materials such as simulations, quizzes, and games further promote active learning by encouraging participation and application of knowledge. In this way, adaptive learning can foster an effective and engaging learning process for students.

Accessible for all students

MyKaiwa aims to be accessible to all students, even if you do not have access to the internet. We hope to work with organizations to provide a more decentralized web, dWeb. Even if governments shut down the internet, people do not realize Wi-Fi and other network routers still work. We just need to get the bandwidth to our students, whether by donated bandwidth or via donated satellite access. Our future plan to is use open source satellite cubes to provide our content to our users around the world.

Affordable for all

We want our app to be affordable. We hope to implement subscription plans that are progressive utilizing pay forward options. LONESTAR will have a social enterprise component that handles this aspect to reach more students globally.

Multilanguage

The eventual goal of our app is that it will be multilanguage functional. Students will use any key language. For example, a student learning English should be able to converse to our app in Russian. We hope to include French, Russian, and Spanish, as our initial key languages in teaching English.

Current Status

We are currently working on the prototype. It is currently in the Idea stage of our startup. Visit the MyKaiwa app website for more information.
